STROHMEIER
Austria, Styria
Christine and Franz Strohmeier have been producing natural wine since 2003 in the West Styrian wine region at 424 meters above sea level on the South-Eastern foothills of the Alps. Franz is quite a philosophical winemaker saying
“it does one good to patiently observe what happens in the peace and tranquility of nature. And the best occurrences are those that take place without influence from outside sources”
Their intention is to continue develop their idyllic, small-structured environment with all kinds of plants, animals and small organisms together with good tasting vegetables, corn and fruit that grows in symbiosis with the grapes. They are determined to produce absolutely natural wines without any additives or chemicals. Along with the soil and climate, the variety in the vineyards and subsequently the aging in the cellar shape the character of their grapes. They encourage all forms of life, from the smallest cell to highly developed plants and animals and this holistic system doesn’t differentiate between vermin and useful beings. Strohmeier believes that every creature signifies something and they search for messages that can further help their understanding of nature. This is the meaning of “love” of all species in their symbiotic vineyard in their product line called TLZ (Trauben, Liebe und Zeit - Grapes, Love and Time). TLZ is all the ingredients a wine needs. Harvest is done by hand and with time and care they are cultivated into wine.
