DOMAINE LES DEUX TERRES
France, Rhône
Les Deux Terres is a fusion between two friends with the same vision. At the same time as Vincent just took over his fathers vineyard Manu found a vineyard nearby in Ardeche. In 2009 they decided to combine their land to make wine together and they started the domain Les Deux Terres. Located in Villeneuve de Berg, Ardeche, in the municipalities of Mirabel and Lussas, the vines are on two different terroirs; clay and limestone for Mirabel and basalt for Lussas.
The grapes from the basalt soils at a higher altitude give acidity and perfume, while those from the lime and clay soils give structure and a certain spiciness. Their wines really express well the terroirs, not only the warmth of the south in Ardèche.
Nine types of grape varieties are grown: syrah, grenache, carignan, merlot, chardonnay, ugni blanc, viognier and grenache blanc, as well as a little cinsault. They also use biodynamic principals and use of algae and other plants to fight vermin in the vineyards.
Destemmed or not, it is racked by gravity and aged in vats and barrels depending on the vintage. The macerations are rather short.
