Edmund (weiss) 2020
Gut Oggau - Stephanie & Eduard Tscheppe-Eselböck
Orange - Burgenland
Natural | Biodynamic | No Sulfites | Unfiltered |
Edmund is a very rare, wild wine that only appears once in a while. From a 55 years old wild unpruned, untilled vineyard on limestone, super low yields (600l/ha) - Biodynamically farmed.
Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed, then rest on skins for about two weeks. The spontaneous fermentation takes place in big used barrels. The wine stays in these barrels for an elevage of about 18 months, with no batonnage. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero addition of sulfur.
Personality: “Edmund has come a long way, and we are happy to have this distant relative with us at Gut Oggau. A transient soul. We don’t know how long he will stick around. So, let’s enjoy him while we can. He is an unconventional type. Offbeat. Expressive. His charm will draw you in. Even if you react initially to his unruly appearance. With every sip, you begin to accept his approach to life. To relish the alternative and embrace the beauty of the unexpected.”
